Frequently asked questions

What is CookieCut?

CookieCut is a free online cookie cutter generator. You upload an image, adjust its outline and download a 3D model (STL, 3MF or STEP) that you can print on a 3D printer.

How do I convert an image to a cookie cutter STL?

Upload your image, check the traced outline, choose the width you want and press Build. When the model is ready you can download the STL file and open it in your slicer.

Which image formats can I use?

PNG, JPG, WebP and BMP. Images with a clear subject, high contrast and a simple shape give the best outlines.

Do I need CAD skills or software?

No. Everything happens in your browser and the cutter is generated for you, so you do not need Fusion 360, Blender or any other CAD program.

What size can the cutter be?

You choose the width. Most cutters are 60–100 mm wide. The cutter is 16 mm tall overall, and the cutting wall is 1.2 mm thick so it prints cleanly with a standard 0.4 mm nozzle.

Which 3D printer do I need?

Any FDM printer works. Print with the flange on the bed and the edge facing up; no supports are required.

Is a 3D-printed PLA cookie cutter food safe?

Printed plastic has small gaps between layers that can hold moisture and food, and not every filament or additive is made for food contact. Use filament intended for food contact, keep contact with dough short, wash by hand and replace worn cutters. This is general information, not a safety guarantee. See our article for details.

Is CookieCut free? What happens to my images?

CookieCut is currently free to use. Images are processed only to create your outline and model and are not used to train machine-learning models. See the Terms of Service for details.

Can I use inches instead of millimeters?

Yes. On the size step, switch the units between millimeters and inches. The width, height and all measurements convert automatically; the model itself is always built to the same exact size.

Can I measure a distance on the outline?

Yes. On the size step, press the ruler button, then click two points on the outline. A line is drawn between them with the distance shown in the middle, in the units you selected and based on the current width and height.
